On October 30th, we’ll be upgrading our web hosting cPanel to a new and more secure version.

This new version will, however, require all new domains, subdomains and addon domains to have an SSL certificate installed. If there’s no SSL certificate associated with newly added domains, cPanel will self sign an SSL certificate and install it.

It is worth noting that self signed certificates are not issued by Certificate Authorities, so they’re not trusted by web browsers. And whoever attempts to access the website via https:// will see the warning message.

Can I avoid this change?

Unfortunately, no. This functionality offers much improved security to the end-user, so it is now mandatory for cPanel and it can’t be turned off.

Where can I get a trusted SSL certificate?

SSL certificates used to cost hundreds of dollars, but that’s certainly a thing of the past. Today, even the most advanced SSL certificate is quite affordable. You can buy an SSL certificate on AGSTUDIOHOST.COM for as little as €15.00 per year.
